Across the Street by Peter Zelewski

Peter Zelewski is a London based portrait and documentary photographer. Born in Detroit, USA, he moved to London in the 1980s and studied graphic design and photography at the London College of Communication (LCC). Through his fascination of people and love of the city, he was drawn to the streets of London to take photographs of its citizens which has resulted in two award-winning projects ’People of Soho’ and ‘Beautiful Strangers’. He divides his time between graphic design, commercial photography commissions and his self-initiated portraiture projects.

Across the Street is a continuous street photography project I started in early 2014. Unlike traditional street photography, which is often captured at close range with a wide angle view, I shot each photograph for this series with a 50mm lens from the other side of the street in both London’s East and West End. The idea behind the project was to discreetly capture unassuming members of the general public as they integrated with their surroundings often in colourful and witty circumstances.
