Swimming Lessons by Muriel Bordier

Muriel Bordier is a French photographer and filmmaker from Rennes. She shoots humorous cultural and social images.

I am a photographer who works with humor. A swimming pool without water is useless architecture. The effect is doubled by the swimmers who seem to not be aware of this aberration. They are in an imaginary practice. I look for a complicity with the spectators. That is why they have to understand about what I mean to say and how I mean to say it. But if other people do not have the same culture, there is an esthetic aspect which is for me very important. As a classic painting, if we do not understand the context, we can remain insensitive to the beauty of the image.
