Nádia Maria Writes Poems Through Her Photography

Nádia Maria, born in 1984, is a Brazilian photographer based in Bauru, São Paulo. She started to shoot as a child, taking pictures of her dolls. Over the years, she explored the world of images. Her relationship with the camera and the images she captures were also born in her childhood, but it became stronger in her youth, becoming her personal journal of the feelings and transformations she was going through in her life. The focus of her inspiration is poetry, and photography is her writing, her intimate feelings, the darkness and the light of her life.

The creative process of my photos comes from the scene in front of me, I either absorb it unconsciously or sometimes it simply appears before I even think about shooting. Often before sleeping when I am silent, I close my eyes, and images form in my mind... I try to express what I can't with words, what is invisible, what feeds the photography, the light, the soul, the feeling, the time, the void, the unknown ... Some people use photography to tell stories, others invent stories through it, I write poems ... About what I live, I feel, about Time and what He's made, the experiences of my life, my encounters... what I try to shoot is always the poetry...

I believe that my intimacy, the transformations and changes that I go through, emotionally and psychologically, inspire me most. Sometimes a book, a song, a news report, a poem, awakens that in me too. All my photographs are related to moments of my life, to my interior. It is through them that I understand every transformation that occurs to me, as a therapy, a self-analysis and sometimes only detachment, a release…
