Art Under Water by Kim Keever

Kim Keever is a photographer based in New York City who creates lush, large-scale photographs of moody landscapes that look like they were painted rather than shot.

I have been an artist for many years, but it wasn’t until three years ago that I started making the abstract images that I have become known for. I am able to achieve truly random forms that are often suggestive of faces and other figurative elements as well as abstraction. For me the beauty of it all is that I never know what I’m going to get. I find this to be a truly magical inspiration. I take a lot of photographs, choose the images that show possibilities and go from there. I am always looking forward to the next shoot.

The two hundred gallon tank I work with is like a “painting machine”. I drop the paint into the water, stand back and photograph the results through the glass as the paint disperses.
