Rek by Juuke Schoorl

Juuke Schoorl's work is usually based on a hands-on process of experimentation. Juuke likes to challenge the physical abilities of his subjects and tries to surprise his audience without the use of digital manipulation. Scientific and natural principles around Juuke inspire him very much and he loves to combine these with photography and film.

With ‘Rek’ (stretch in Dutch) I explored the aesthetic possibilities of the human skin through a mixture of image capturing techniques. By manipulating this curious stretchable material with various low budget materials like nylon thread and cello tape I am able to temporarily shape it into surprising textures and shapes. Highlighting not only it’s flexibility and adaptability but also it’s function as our own biological upholstery. That aside from it’s protective capabilities could also serve as a medium for aesthetic expression, maybe even in the form of a dress less fashion.
