Lost in… by Julien Dumas

Julien Dumas is a story-teller. Each of his pictures, is a news item, a slice of life in which he let us introduce our selves according freedom to be the script writer of it. The all thing is about to know if this slice of life is going to happen in front of us, or if the dramatic turn that we suppose, had already happen. It let Julien’s actress wondering, lay low, overburden… Are we witnesses of this critical moment, or is he the instigator of this revealed moment? A diving in each picture, to cease their clues… and the mysterious framework. 

In august 2009, during a journey in New York, Julien Dumas has discover by chance Richard Avedon work! He is already seduces by his fifty, sixties pictures, the glam and sensual aspect of the black and white images. When he comes back in Paris, the adventure begins for Julien, starting with women portraits, with fixed expression, inert, awaited “I was looking for inexpression”  After his first experiments, a first exhibition arose in May 2010. His first work was about a serie called “None Ethnie”. None is employed for the English meaning of without difference. It is a ten pictures serie, portrait with the same posture, same attitude… only the skin color changes. A kind of “transition between the virgin Mary and the cotton picker”  He follows his photographic discovering, and each encounter improve his work. Julien project head toward series of “scene” always in this fixed mind, now adding a set, a dramatization, a timeless image where we never know if the action will go on, or yet happen. It is about letting imagination of the public taking part, the aim of the serie “Lost in”
